The automated metro of the future: a strategic alliance between two major players 

Rail manufacturer Alstom and operator RATP, in charge of the Paris transport network, have announced their alliance in a joint venture called “Metrolab”. Its purpose is to design and build an automated metro for the 21st-century. The first prototype is due in 2013.

Europeans are ready to opt for public transport – provided it becomes easier to use
The Eurobarometer survey “Future of transport” (March 2011) reveals that Europeans are willing to change their mobility habits and abandon their cars in favour of public transport – if the latter becomes easier to use and if there are incentive measures with regard to ticketing.
